Wesnoth Project Status

Does anyone have any details regarding the rejuvenation of the Wesnoth project? I used to play this all of the time, and think that it's an incredible effort. I'd love to hear some success stories with FOSS software.

It looks like their last update is pretty extensive, and looks great: http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.12/
