Agree, although properly positioned monitor speakers which have been equalized by the listener for a particular spot in the room can sound really, REALLY nice (if you don't leave your listening chair !).
Yeah, but what about all the reflections that are bound to happen in untreated room?
They get ignored mostly. If the intent is pro grade, treat the room.
Otherwise, that is what the sweet listening spot is all about.
