Yeah, that's unfortunately a result of the proprietary database we had to license :-/.

We started out by writing scrapers to do the checks to avoid these sorts of problems, but they ended up being way more trouble than they were worth.

Did you know that New Jersey's voter registration portal has business hours and that California does voter registration on a per-county basis? That means the best case scenario is writing and maintaining 58 individual scrapers just for California, if you don't count the counties where you can only check by calling in.
