Ask HN: US Election: Who did you vote for, and why? (Why I voted for Trump.)
The Art of the Deal: read it all as a kid and saw Trump stand up to NYC politicians and thought, "Why can't we have someone like this to be President."
The Apprentice: Watched regularly, saw Trump raising money for charities and making business accessible, and thought, "This guy is going to run for President. I hope he wins."
Law and Order: My wife is an immigrant. Her family, from Ukraine, are all citizens now. Immigrants here illegally are abused. I empathize, but they need to follow our laws and go back to their home countries.
Trump was the underdog: No political experience, vastly inferior infrastructure (or so I thought), and was doing all the wrong things. Half the money as Hillary, news media concluded Hillary guaranteed. Social media SJW bullies trying to make his supporters shut up and go away. The Republicans would barely pay lip-service. Democrats were paying instigators and provocateurs. His vocal supporters were trolling or worse. College campuses with dozens of liberal speakers ever year were canceling the only conservatives because SJW bullies couldn't handle someone they disagreed with.
Reservations: Russia and him wanting a less active global leadership role. I'm also a bit worried about protectionism. Not only do economists demonstrate we're all better off with free trade, but who are politicians to tell us who we can't buy stuff from?
Relative to Hillary, getting VIP treatment from the FBI, AG way too cozy with her husband, the emails I think she should have been sophisticated enough to know better than to mix personal with work, the deletions after the subpoena, the biased treatment she got from the press, SNL, talk-shows, and everyone in her party supporting her - I felt like she was being forced onto us.
When I make a decision, I like to have lots of reasons for my decision, and few against. For me it was a no-brainer.
So who did you vote for and why?
