PGP/GPG is the FFMPEG of encryption software. It could be done way better.

ffmpeg has had a lot of hours of fuzzing and improvements thrown at it. I believe it's come out of the avconv fork looking better - after all, it survived.

It's powerful software, but goddamn that command-line interface makes ImageMagick look downright simplistic.

There are GUI tools for setting these options, but they're absolutely atrocious. You may as well be trying to program a guided missile.

FFmpeg is mostly a set of libraries rather than the test command-line application. There are really a huge number of applications using it internally.
