Why Multiple JOINs Are Bad for Query or Do Not Get in the Way of Optimizer

Great post. I once cut a 10min query to a few seconds by changing a few joins to be subqueries which ran like a map/reduce in the db (prod data vs theoretical).

ORMs are great in some cases, and the cause of pain in others.
