I would buy a wireless audio speaker that uses NFC instead of bluetooth to connect to Android or iPhone. You would have to set the phone on the device but that would be a small price to pay if the connection were more reliable.
NFC has an effective range of about 20cm, bluetooth (and wifi) up to about 50m. these have completely different use cases, and if you're limiting yourself to 20cm range for a semi-permanent fixture (like speakers) you might as well run a wire.
that's not how NFC works.
I would love if all my Bluetooth devices used nfc to set up pairing.
Yes, maybe pairing could be accelerated with NFC, then switching to bluetooth for extended range and bandwidth.
Do you really have problems with Bluetooth connection when the speaker is touching the phone?
I am in the Apple ecosystem and the "pair" process is incredibly slow, even when it works. I'm arguing about seconds here but it's usually like 15 seconds.
NFC has distance and bandwidth limits.
I would be OK with the distance and bandwidth limit if it were high quality audio transmitted zero distance (contact) wirelessly, without a pairing step which is currently manual.
I think the bandwidth is too low for any half-decent quality of audio. Not 100% sure.
