Ask HN: Managed VPS or shared hosting?

For a non-server guy, I'm quite comfortable with cPanel on shared hosting (I can add domains, set up an email and SSL). So I want to ask you if a managed VPS with free cPanel included can be also easy to handle for a simple designer?

I don't even know what is LAMP is, and it seems to me this one is not installed...

Can I make this move, as I need more resources for my site? Thank you for advance.
