I read it six times in rapid succession and it keeps flipping between being a supporting arguement for and against the parent comment.

I like to call that a blue/white rebuttal

Is this a reference to something I'm not familiar with?

It's probably a reference to the debate on Reddit about whether a dress (http://i.imgur.com/9VWYggm.jpg) was black and blue or white and gold.
