I'm not so sure about that last part. We (Kinvey, www.kinvey.com) have been using it for customer-facing services in production for over a year. Results have exceeded our expectations.

We are using Kubernetes since 2016 to deploy OpenStack for SAP's internal cloud. We also offer the reverse, Kubernetes on OpenStack, as-a-service to our internal customers. [1]

We are all-in-all very satisfied with Kubernetes, except that it's quite messy to do right on bare metal.
