Ask HN: Just received a data breach scam attack, is anyone researching these?

I just received a email, that included one of my throw away passwords in the title. It asked for 3K in bitcoin, or else is would send video to my friends and family. Anyhow, is there anyone who is working on backtracing these scum? I thought of forwarding the email to the FBI, but I am not sure if they are working on these things.
