the same car model name gets much bigger and more powerful over time. Usually a new model is inserted under the existing one, for honda its the "fit".

1985 civic was quite small, about 150" in length and small engines usually < 100 horsepower. the new civic is (169.3 in) 4,300 mm, considerable larger.

Got a Honda Clarity Hybrid Plugin for ~two months. I have been using the electric mode. Don't have to fill the gas tank after ~1800 miles. Used only ~1-2 galleon of gas because I wasn't too sure about the setup initially.

It has electric range of 48 miles - perfect for the daily commute ~30 miles round trip. A nice gas option is there just in case the battery is gone - which I used couple time.

The charge point app shows that the car took in 169KWHr in Oct. I figure if it is charged at home 15c / KWHr = ~$23. That's 50% to 75% cheaper than my last commuting car's gas cost.

I am doing my share to reduce the oil demand.

Is the electricity that you're using coming from a renewable resource like hydro/wind/solar, or is it from a NG/Coal burning plant like most are?

Looks like 49% of California's Electric still comes from NG from 2016. Solar was < 10%.

Hopefully solar will be higher and higher percentage of it soon.

I love to see the 50%+ or more Ca's roof top, parking lots cover with solar panels.

I like to a solar deployment system such that: * a 40 ft container pull up to a parking lots. * A machine drill 4, 6, 8 1x6 ft holes on the ground. * A concrete 1x6 ft concrete anchor beam drop down - secured. * Some posts erect on site in a half hours. * The per-fabricated solar panel pull on top and fasten. * The whole solar deployment is finished in < 4 hours.

I think a big problem is from the reflections produced by the current panels, blinding pilots overhead. I know when the sun hits a reflective window on the building across the street from me at the right angle, I have to pull my blinds as it makes it incredibly bright for a few minutes, and if you look at the huge reflection in the window it hurts the eyes. I can only imagine how bad it would be for pilots if 50%+ of buildings/houses had them installed.

It looks like you're referring to the "In-State Electricity Source Percentages" table. According to that table, natural gas reached its maximum share in 2014 at 61.3%, when solar was only 5.3%. In 2017 natural gas was down to 43.4% and solar was up to 11.8%. California is making progress at a good pace.

However the means of measurement for mileage has changed since then and is more strict. You can go to [1] for more information but that 51mpg car is now 43mpg now.

If only 1985 could catch up to our NVH , safety and emissions.
