Ask HN: Feel the same loyalty for countries of residence as we now do jobs?

I'm not particularly nomadic but having been born in a country, raised in another and currently living in a third country I already feel zero loyalty towards any specific nationality or country.

Unrealistic hope, when so many people never live more than a day's hike from where they were born.

Scott Alexander has written an interesting exploration of an idea similar to this: http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/06/07/archipelago-and-atomic-...

I feel like the tweet author is being too dismissive of the value of culture though (which is the umbrella that morals and religion belong to).

I think the tweet author in the first twitter reply emphasises the importance of culture in your choice of residence versus the arbitrary birth country.

By culture I mean a culture to belong to, traditions and history you can feel linked to and that give you a sense of historical continuity. I'm british though so our cultural history is a bit more ancient than the US and I don't know if national spirit works the same there as a result. It seems the US is more unified by ideas around freedom from tyranny and individual rights.
