Ask HN: What are some mordern day trends like Moore's Law?

For most major companies there existed a trend that caused some major changes in industry.

Apple and MS came when cost computing power was dropping sharply.

Dropbox and Box came when storage costs were decreasing rapidly (about 50% YOY as stated by Aaron Levie)

Alto was built taking next ten year's computing capacity into consideration.

Any general trends that you might want to point out today?

Example, increasing amount of data generated every year.
