"We've already seen that in XYZ" seems like a really bad argument for disliking something. That's like saying that Game of Thrones shouldn't have been made, since we've already seen a medieval / fantasy show in the form of Lord of the Rings.
And the problem is not so much that it had been done before but that it was obvious.
