> The right to anonymous political campaigning was established in the U.S. Supreme Court decision in McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission (1995) case: "Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority...It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First Amendment in particular: to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation—and their ideas from suppression—at the hand of an intolerant society" [1]
Does anyone know how much of this is limited to written speech (i.e. online) vs in person?
Groups that have already been linked to the murder of more than 6 Portlanders.
This is not a both sides situation. Joey Gibson and his band of thugs have had deep cooperation with the PPD which has actual neo-nazis in leadership positions. This proposal is thourouughly corrupt and is designed to allow groups of Proud Boys to show up at the houses of people who are organizing to prevent fascists having unopposed recruiting parties.
Might as well call it the "Portland Death Squads supporting act of 2019"
Groups like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer are the ones who show up fully armed and try to send people to the hospital or the morgue. The fact that at this time they find willing allies to spread their message in mainstream media should worry you if you like the US to not have door to door death squads murdering union organizers, artists and other dissidents.
