A Royal Marine who learned coding on a warship without internet

Interviewee here. AMA, particularly if you're a veteran who wants to get into tech.

I'd love to hear from my betheren over the pond what the signalling and transition process is like for guys and gals leaving the US forces.

Some of us started coding before the internet was available. We learned syntax from books, and copied programs from magazines and dissected them to work in different ways while learning what all the different parts did. We also learned how to reverse-engineer working programs to see how they ticked.

It wasn't 'better' or 'worse', just a different way of learning.

Any vets who have gone into coding here? Ben Ford learned on a ship on his way to Iraq. Not the standard way to learn Python!
