Poll: Are you partial to a blog comment system?

I like LiveJournal.com or similar's commenting engine the best - it has previews, it supports HTML with opening and closing tags, etc. The WordPress.org blog commenting system is absolute braindamage and it is one of the reason why I don't use WordPress.

I've been wondering: Any way to turn the comment system off in Wordpress?

You are leaving out Facebook comments which is, for better or for worse, an increasingly popular commenting system.

I have a twitter thinger on my blog that shows a search for my blog name...

I d say disqus strikes the best balance. You don't have to retype your name on each site, You can be as private as you wish and there are proper discussion threads. They need to work on speed and user interface.

I also comment on blogs that don't require signup

Facebook's comments have the wrong order and are not threaded. Plus there is in them, just like everywhere in Facebook a sense of social competition to view only the most liked/commented post, hiding everything else unger the fold. And disclosing your name / job every time means you have to be careful what u say.
