does youtube-dl -U still works?

Worked for me.

    Updating to version 2020.11.01.1 ...
Updated youtube-dl. Restart youtube-dl to use the new version.

I get "ERROR: can't find the current version. Please try again later."

Yes it does. Why do you even ask instead of just trying?

Auto-update didn't work for me either.

  Updating to version 2020.11.01.1 ...
ERROR: unable to download latest version

Go HERE: https://youtube-dl.org/ and download the youtube-dl.exe file directly this will give you the 2020.11.01.1 version https://youtube-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl.exe

Its not outside the realm of possibilities that someone familiar with the command might not be at their computer and therefore unable to test it at the moment, all the while the curiosity burns.

Thanks for confirming
