Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancers? (May 2011)
Please lead with either SEEKING WORK or SEEKING FREELANCER, your location and whether remote work is a possibility.
[1] "Who is hiring" "Who is hiring Remote" "Who is hiring Interns"
Remote work preferable. Nomadic, currently in Hong Kong. I'm also interested in fulltime work and I am willing to relocate for the right job.
I've worked professionally with python, ocaml and erlang. I've worked in search ( http://bit.ly/ji-texsearch-opt , https://github.com/jamii/texsearch ), testing ( http://bit.ly/ji-fuzzer , https://github.com/jamii/ocamlcheck ), distributed systems ( http://bit.ly/ji-mealy ) and am making inroads into p2p ( https://github.com/jamii/dissertation , http://bit.ly/ji-telehash , https://github.com/jamii/erl-telehash ). I have a strong background in math (real analysis, probability, discrete maths) and computer science (randomized algorithms, AI / epistemic logic, machine learning).
I'm willing to work on anything interesting but my main interests are distributed systems and p2p networks.

(Buzzword: Data Scientist)
I'm primarily interested in freelance work, but full-time is also a possibility, and I'm willing to relocate. I'm currently in the Bay Area.
I have several years of experience in data mining, statistics, and machine learning (doing everything from quantitative trading and pricing, to building recommendation engines and mining search engines). I pick up new languages and technologies quickly, though I work primarily with Ruby, Python, Java, R, Rails, and Hadoop. To use a buzzword, you can think of me as the prototypical 'data scientist' -- I love doing everything from building dashboards to display data (Rails, Sinatra, Javascript), gathering data and cleaning it up (Ruby, Hadoop), exploring and analyzing data for patterns (R, Python), and coding machine learning algorithms for production (Java).

Senior Mobile/Web Developer:
* Published O'Reilly author
* 15 years of software development experience (Objective C, C, Ruby, Java, Perl, Python, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
* 5 years of Objective C/Cocoa experience
* 3 years of iPhone experience with published apps
Especially interested in healthcare technology, but will consider any web/mobile projects. Contact me via my website (http://guelich.net/) or HN profile. Contract work only, will not relocate, and no unpaid/equity projects please.
While this is remote-only for now, it'd be great if you were local -- we're building out a long-term team and will be setting up an office in the coming months.
I'm with a 5-person team working on a real-time web + mobile application. We just finished a prototype, raised some seed money, and are headed for greatness. Hopefully. This is a chance to work on some architecture from the outset of the product. I'd prefer those who have a possibility of coming on long-term as I build out the team, most likely around Palo Alto, but do have immediate needs that lead me to consider splitting up short-term chunks of development for freelancers. In any case, we're distributed for now so remote is the only possibility.
backend: postgres, python, django, gevent + gunicorn
frontend: coffeescript, jQuery, backbone.js, socket.io, modernizr, compass
I'm looking for:
1. Advanced web jacks-of-many-trades. You know a lot about several things from above and have at least tried your hand at a demo app using the rest. Backend/frontend/deployment.
2. A specialized front-end dev who knows their javascript in-and-out. We're designing a single page architecture for the most part. Mobile browser experience would be good.
3. Mobile app developers (native iPhone & Android, though we're considering phonegap as well to get something out there faster).
We're staying distributed for now -- I'm based in Palo Alto but spend a fair amount of time with some of the team in DC as well.

Mainly Python with Django at the moment. Im also quite fond of Javascript despite its quirks. CSS and HTML too of course. See http://djangopeople.net/almostobsolete for a few examples. Have also worked in Flash and Flex (AS 2 and 3), C, Haskell, Ruby, PHP and lots of others.
Looking for freelance work but feel free to contact me about anything

We are a small startup founded by a group of ex-google engineers in San Francisco. We are building a set of companion mobile applications for our primary product, and are seeking to hire a freelancer for the Android app (we've built the corresponding iPhone app).
Shoot me an email - spinlock AT gmail.com - with some links to android work you've done, and we can setup a time to talk.
Mainly Python/Django application developer. I am comfortable with both frontend (Javascript, HTML, jQuery, backbone.js, ...) and backend development. Aware of the main third-party apps and familiar of the South/Virtualenv/Fabric deployment stack. Decent sys administration skills, familiar with deployment/configuration using Nginx/Apache adn various wsgi libraries (gevent, uwsgi, gunicorn). Avid screen scraper too.
I love to work on great/interesting projects and have some degree of responsibility.

Hi there,
I’m from Germany. My name is Stefan, M.Sc., and I’m a Rails Developer with more than three years of experience in Rails and about ten years in general web development. My portfolio includes a lot of successful commercial projects and facebook games. I love building awesome user experiences and go the extra mile to make users happy.
I enjoy working in cool and agile teams, showing off code, learning from and working with others… but I can get most jobs done on my own too, if required.
My weapons of choice are: Rails and Padrino - CoffeeScript, jQuery - HAML, Sass - DataMapper - Everything HTML5 - OSX, Git, heroku. If I’m not confident working with a technology or doubt that I can get something done I’ll always tell you beforehand.
I recently moved to Frankfurt and now I’m searching for freelance work and interesting web projects. So contact me whenever you need an application or feature built or anything else needs to be done :)

Thanks for your time,
Stefan
