submission was [dead] ed but brought back. Maybe that's why it's missing in some databases.

72ha99ahsbc7's comment is [dead]ed. Everyone should enable the setting to see [dead]ed comments. Not rarely those are the best.

You can un-dead them in order to read, but not comment.

How might one do that?

Dead comments remain dead in the hands of mere mortals. I can only assume that the gods of HN have powers beyond that.

You can only check 'show dead' option on HN to be exposed to what others have deemed unworthy to be heard or touched by key-presses.

When comments (or submissions) accumulate enough vouches, they can be reanimated (as it were).

From what you say I assume you can upvote a dead comment? I guess that interseting perks come along with higher karma then?

It's funny that for 10+ years I didn't work on accumulating karma because of some 'what are internet points good for?' nonsense. I should probably reconsider that frame :)
