Could SolarWinds have still been hacked without those two incredible displays of incompetence? Probably. But there's no point worrying about more sophisticated attacks if you can't stop the less sophisticated. The first step to not getting hacked is literally to not be that incompetent.

And: Don't use Windows. Use a secure platform, and apply best practices. Not worst.

There's no evidence that was the root cause of the hack.

Also, you have to design for incompetence. Technical users are the most dangerous ones of all.

Maybe, but this shows lack of emphasis on safe security practices by the company.
