When hiring in secondary markets, seek out great teachers and avid learners

“When hiring in secondary markets, choose employees with the assumption that you’ll work together for at least 10 years.”

A nice idea, but I haaaaaated lying to interviewers about my intentions when they asked me, “where do you see yourself in five or ten years?” Is it really not ok if I put in two solid years solving your interesting problems?

I feel like most programming jobs outside of Silicon Valley are just like any other corporate job. They tend to get paid more because it's harder to replace a programmer analyst for your company than it is someone in accounting (not saying ones easier than the other).
