Early Illustrations of the Nervous System

I don't do much neuroscience anymore but classic Golgi and Cajal drawings still move me to tears. The mystery these scientists began unlocking 100 years ago is still the biggest in all of science. For people interested in the modern versions, I highly recommend checking out Janelia's drosophila connectome data: https://elifesciences.org/articles/57443

Absolutely agree! And Beautiful Brain: The Drawings of Santiago Ramon y Cajal is still highly worth checking out.

I thought “modern version” was going to refer to the book Portraits of the Mind from 2010 https://www.theguardian.com/science/gallery/2010/nov/28/neur...

This reminds me of the art on the walls in Prey (2017), eg https://giantbomb1.cbsistatic.com/uploads/original/0/5370/30...

Golgi developed the staining method used by both, but it is Cajal who really make the study on brain anatomy shine. They shared Nobel prize, and Cajal is viewed as founding father of Neuroscience.
