There is some evidence that shrinking populations are bad for the global economy. To me, however, the greater tragedy would be a failure to take full advantage of the planet’s capacity to sustain human life.

But why? Is TC suffering from some sort of species-level FOMO that he doesn't want to imagine not maxing out the possibilities? To me it seems asinine, if not dangerous, to be at or near the carrying capacity of your environment all the time. Is there something bad about more space and fewer demands on natural resources?

I agree with this position although it’s pretty uncommon. It seems as though there is obsession with growth without ever considering what that growth is comprised of or whether it’s remotely sustainable.

There are approximately 8 times the number of humans on this planet as is optimal. This is not a threat, it's a promise.
