Delphi was not a failure by _any_ stretch of imagination. In terms of RAD, it was only second to VB.

Yes. And that "only second to VB" must be in reference to sales. Delphi was way more advanced and usable than VB, from a technical point of view.

These days the best comparison would be Python, perhaps. Not in terms of things like indentation, but conceptually: that is, elegant non-C-style.
