I know it's meant to be a hippopotamus, but the default desktop background just reminds me of a couple of hairy testicles.

Definitely changing that after install, I don't want to be greeted by a giant parcel of pubes when I log in.

I thought the same thing, except my brain thought it looked like a hairy butt.

I know this is a really dumb thing to comment on when there's so much actual substantive change in this release, but this image is literally the first impression new users will get for the next six months, and will be the thumbnail for tons of tutorials and such during the next year. It probably could've done with another revising pass.

I miss the Hardy Heron wallpaper. That one was very beautiful and invited me to switch to Linux.

Disco dingo had some amazing wallpapers and name.

Do hippos even have notable amounts of hair? lmgtfm

Unlike most other semiaquatic animals, hippos have very little hair. The skin is 6 cm (2 in) thick, providing it great protection against conspecifics and predators.

That's actually the first thing I noticed. Hippo is totally not hairy like that at all. In all the videos of hippos that I've seen they always have smooth skin.

The codename for Ubuntu 21.04 is "Hirsute Hippo" and "hirsute" means "Covered with hair; hairy."

Now google "hirsute"

I saw something different from the other gender, still hairy. Though now I can't stop seeing the testicles.

How did this pass any UX testing?

Hairy Hooters ... owls of course!

While I don't see that right away, I do think the image could have done without the hair.

It looks terrible. What were they thinking?

Could've been worse, they could have called it "Horny Hippo" instead

That was my first thought was well. Glad I'm not the only one with a dirty mind.

I love Groovy Gorilla, the words and wallpaper.

thanks. now I can't unsee it.
