Which consumes more power: Banks or Bitcoins? (2018)

Per transaction served, there is no question Bitcoin uses more energy. That is because it uses cost as a defense mechanism.

The node sacrificing the most computing power is the one least likely to spam.

That said, perhaps it's too much reward for this sacrifice; the transaction fees are quite expensive.
