Orphan Utopia: John Ballou Newbrough’s desert colony (2017)

I got this from The Browser newsletter, which summarizes:

The twelve adherents of Faithism, perhaps the smallest religion in the world, hold weekly prayer meetings on Skype to study their holy book, Oahspe, dictated by angels in 1881 to a New York dentist called John Ballou Newbrough. Newbrough’s first followers set up a vegetarian commune in New Mexico to raise 10,000 orphaned babies, but collected only 28.

The Wikipedia page is suprisingly detailed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oahspe:_A_New_Bible and includes interesting links like

and the remarkable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3KsIRoTugs - I mean, it has an Oahspe rap soundtrack that's actually rather good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3KsIRoTugs#t=5m50s

Why do I feel like Cormack McCarthy owes me a novel about Oahspe?

Cough up, Cormack!
