Quote above attributed to a Walgreens security guard.
This is just the wrong way to look at it. Of course, no property is worth risking death to protect. Property can be replaced, and life cannot. But it isn't about property. It's about the rights of people (including merchants) to live in a civilized society, with laws that protect those rights and that are enforced. That is what is NOT being defended in San Francisco. And it should not fall upon security guards who are probably making minimum wage but upon the elected leadership who have sworn an oath to do so.
They make no mention of what drastic changes these stores are undertaking, other than some kind of ring-to-enter system which is already common for small businesses in high crime areas.
Repeated references to "organized shoplifting" but the only example is some crackhead whose getaway vehicle was a bicycle??? I was expecting some Mafia activity or evil flashmob or something.
The article says target changed their hours and closes early and Walgreens is closing their stores because theft is so rampant they can’t keep the shelves stocked.
