Any idea what it was like before smart phones? Did people talk to strangers to entertain themselves or did they pretty much behave the same way...keeping to themselves by reading a newspaper/book or staring at their feet?
Off the commute: Fishing. Tinkering. Painting, writing. There's probably more.
People converse much more and in bigger groups than before, but not as face to face.
