Looks good! Keycastr is a similar project for macOS, I use it while streaming coding work. https://github.com/keycastr/keycastr

In the past I've relied on XEV, a command line tool that displays all of this information for an X session: https://www.x.org/archive/X11R7.6/doc/man/man1/xev.1.xhtml

https://github.com/Code52/carnac is similar if you're looking for something that doesn't require Java

Carnac looks amazing. Is it cross-platform? (The home page notes Windows 7+, but could it run under WINE with .NET?)

Carnac is really the best one - configurable enough, beautiful and performant. I do think it's Windows only though. Haven't tried within WINE yet though.
