I was curious if this McCarthy was related to THAT McCarthy, as an interested outsider. Nope.

But I did discover that he holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. How the fuck is Marketing part of the Science faculty?

BSc is a pretty broad category

and my degree in biochemistry is a bachelor of arts

Isn't this a serious crime?

Providing phone records of elected officials to their political opponents without a court order? Seems like it.

Or did You mean what they are hoping to find in the phone records?

I mean I'd consider organizing a coup to stop the peaceful transfer of power would certainly be considered a crime. Especially when some of the members are actively planning t have another go at it(https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/a...)

Yes indeed that would be a terrible crime. I am so glad it was not achieved, the US is fortunate that the government was able to fight off the insurectionists and lock up all those awful people.

Although, a simmilar situation took place in Hong Kong but I guess those terrorist were on the right side of freedom, right?

I really don't care what's happening outside the borders. It's pretty irrelevant. All I care about is a certain party here organized a coup and now threatening private players of dire consequences if they followed through with the subpoena.

(Laughably, they did the same thing 4 years back to try to bury a political opponent. Nothing happened. https://twitter.com/robertjdenault/status/143307082899280281... )

If the Democrats really believe that their opponents organized a coup then the US has bigger problems ahead.

It is possible that the Republican members encouraged a political protest that unfortunately turned violent and got out of hand but that is not a coup and is no worse than the Democrats fundraising to bail out BLM rioters.

I wouldn't be supprised if Congress awards themselves medals for surviving the "Great Insurection of Jan 6th." What a bunch of calamity callers.

It's not really my place to "Red Pill" You but in this case I will make an exception. Two weeks ago President Biden told the world that the Afgan army had over 300000 troops and the Taliban only had 80000 and that Afghanistan was not lost. Yesterday he came out and said that if the US had stayed it would have required thousands of troops and cost many lives.

How can a critical thinker square those two statements? Unless You have bought into the propaganda being spewed by the colluding fascist corporate media You would realize that the "Real Coup" took place long before Jan 6th and involved Washington insiders, Leftist subverts and never gave the outsider who by the way was who actually negotiated the withdrawl from Afghanistan...Pres #45

The government the U.S. has been building for the past 20 years at the cost of 3,500+ American lives and over $2.5 trillion? It collapsed in 4 days.

What a waste.

Afghanistan became a "forever war" because there wasn't a good time to pull out. There never is.

As far as I can tell what became the primary purpose of the mission in Afghanistan was to make the Military Industrial Complex a lot of money. From that standpoint the mission was an incredible success.

I just used Afghanistan and the lies being told about it as an example because it is currently fresh in peoples memory.

There are countless examples of the twisted collusion that has been taking place since the wrong guy won the election back in 2016. Once You see through the BS propaganda one time it stops working on You.

I think it goes back at least as far as the wrong guy won the election in 1968. We've been on this path for a while.

Yes I think You are right, even before 1968. I believe FD Roosevelt managed to convince the press not to photograph him with crutches or in a wheelchair. There is no such thing as an honest fair and impartial press or politician.

I'm not an expert especially on avenues to challenge, but the House Select Committee has subpoena powers

The legal argument against a subpoena, such as it were, rests on the Constitution’s speech-or-debate clause, which states that “for any Speech or Debate in either House,” members of Congress “shall not be questioned in any other Place” (emphasis added).

The clause dates back to 1689’s English Bill of Rights, which was designed to prevent the monarchy from using criminal and civil laws to bully legislators critical of the Crown.

The Democrats are attacking their opponents for challenging the results of the election, something that has occurred after every election by both sides for time and memorial.

I wonder how much longer they are going to try and make hay from Jan 6th? Probably right up until the midterms which is over a year away.

But it's not my fight anyways, I live in Canada now and we are going into our own election which will probably result in our own set of challenges, big lies and inquiries as canadian politicians seem to mirror the US political attack strategy.

As far as I understand, these aren't speeches in either house. Nevertheless, what if a member of Congress incited violence with his speeches? Should be he go as nothing happened? Is there really no limits?

> The Democrats are attacking their opponents for challenging the results of the election, something that has occurred after every election by both sides for time and memorial.

You think a mob has invaded the capitol building every election?

Or look at it another way: if Biden loses in 2024, how far should he be allowed to go in order to overthrow the election?

How far did Trump go to overthrow it? You seem to think it's all Trumps fault that a mob of people that spent a summer watching people riot all across america looting and burning down buildings...without any concequences, show up at the capitol to protest, get carried away then riot, and bust into the capitol.

Trump probably did enjoy watching congress cowar in fear and flee, but in the end he told them to go home, he didn't say "now I'm incharge". You only think that way because the sleazy media propagandists have told You to think that.

Maybe You shoukd try looking at it another way, or don't ignorance is bliss after all.

Well, he did invite them to come to Washington, and encourage them to storm the Capitol, so yeah, I'd say he went pretty far.

Hell, they wanted to kill the Vice-President.

> but in the end he told them to go home, he didn't say "now I'm incharge"

When attempting a coup, it's important to know when you succeeded, and know when you failed. And look! He may even get away with it.

Just so we're clear, though—you're fine with Biden supporters staging a repeat of this in 2024? Who knows, maybe next time it'll work.

Whatever floats your boat, Your make huge assumptions and are pontificating on Biden losing the election what a dumb argument.

I do not share the same opinion regarding the events on Jan 6th as You and I never will.

As far as a peaceful transfer of power the violence that occured leading up to the election assured that a peacefull transfer of power could not occur. The threat of violence was so obvious that store owners were boarding up windows prior to the election, and that was not out of fear that Biden would win.

If You could get past the Trump derangement syndrome for a while You might see that.

"I was so worried about the glass breaking that I broke it myself, just to be sure."
