The lack of technical information on the site is staggering. Who will put that amount of cash with no clear specs shown right off the start? Or am I missing a button or section because I’m browsing from an ipad? Getting that more often these days.

Android 11 on 1.8GHz 4 Core processor with 4GB RAM & 64GB ROM is what they state in their page.

Where exactly? I can't find any of those strings on reinkstone.com.

Individual product page. It's not obvious but the product image is clickable.

They have a lot more details on their Kickstarter page:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2026122594/reinkstone-r...

> DES color display

More details about this technology: https://v4.cecdn.yun300.cn/100001_1909185148/EN_Display_Elec...

And the panel seems to be this one: https://www.good-display.com/product/385.html

Yep, they don’t even state the size of the screen

FWIW there's another Kickstarter with a DES screen tablet here which may be better technically: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/topjoy/topjoy-butterfly...

That has a fair bit more details.

I submitted the Reinkstone one since it had a photo of a big color image on the screen.

Honestly I don't find it that overpriced considering that it's a niche product, I expected something closer to $1000. I agree that they're light on the technical data though.

I don't really have a use for this particular product but I'm excited for any development in e-paper technology. I still hope that in the not-so-far future I'll be able to program on a decently-sized, decently-fast, decently-priced eink display.

Yes, for example, how large is the gamut?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamut

DES (Digital Electronic Slurry) is a competing technology to E-Ink. It supports fairly high color depth and is relatively cheap.

I had heard previously on HN that there were competing technologies but I never knew of a concrete example.

Is it also patent hell or is there a chance for diverse market with competition?

Device looks nice in pictures but not exactly what I'm looking for so I hope others can come up with different devices.

Patents aren't the issue here, its not with e-ink. Its the lack of willing by the patent holders to license.

It might not be the only issue, but it is clearly part of it - if there was no patent in the first place we wouldn't be discussing their unwillingness to license.

Could you clarify your position? It sounds like you are saying all patents are bad.

Also what license are we talking about? And what unwillingness to license?

> Is it also patent hell

What patent hell?

Off-topic: who's the genius who decided to hide the video player I started when you scroll past it ?

This could be an interesting product but I couldn't tell because a pop-up covered up all the content on my mobile device.

Seems like they are not shipping to Europe and other places atm (just US & China).

They automagically showed me the price in SEK (Swedish krona), how confusing.

In my case they even told me that "someone in France has just bought this 8 minutes ago, hurry up!".

Despite the fact they do not ship to France.

This website is a scam. And for some reason made HN frontpage...

But they say right there!: "Reinkstone is a professional and responsible company based around people." ;-)

The "someone in France" popup isn't even randomly generated. It's hardcoded in the JS source:

That's a pretty lazy scam.
