This is really neat! There's growing number of self-hosters that I'm sure will find this useful.

May I suggest using a separate domain for tunnels, and adding it to the [public suffix list](https://github.com/publicsuffix/list)?

From what I can tell, takingnames.io subdomains are able to access the takingnames.io auth cookie. Having a separate domain would mitigate this.

Not sure, but I think maybe it already works the way you're suggesting? The free subdomains hang off the takingnames.live domain. takingnames.io is only used for the website currently, because I'm concerned about it's reputation. Free subdomains are often used for spam/phishing.

Interesting project. I want to move off of Google for domain name provider. How are domains purchased? Also, what is your acceptable use policy?

Domains are purchased on the home page through Stripe. Once payment is received, we then purchase the domain using the Name.com API and give you control over it. This is similar to how Namecheap did things when they started (resold through enom), and how Amazon still does it (uses gandi.net). Unfortunately registering to become an actual registrar is quite expensive, so reselling is the only real way to get started.

We haven't drafted a formal AUP for the beta (purely from lack of time), but you can expect something similar to what you'd get from other domain sellers.

I love the simplicity! I noticed the release article was published in January 2020. Have you been actively working on it since then?

Ha nope! Just a typo. Maybe everyone thought it was old news and that's why it didn't get any traction ;)
