I’m not planning on being infected. I hear this same fatalism about herpes and divorce. Why encourage bad behavior?

I agree with you that bad behavior should not be encouraged but then again why are alcohol, cigarettes and sugar heavy food and beverages legal?

Because it's not bad. It's saving you from getting a dangerous variant, like Delta.

And you cannot really plan to not get infected, everybody will.
