Ask HN: Could Russia be “unplugged” from the internet?

Disconnecting your adversary will give you at least two disadvantages: will push them to improve their own tech, and won't allow you to easily spy on them (which includes sending propaganda). Instead you should make them more dependant on your tech.

Well that also seems like a good strategy if you want to inflict maximum annoyance the day you decide to unplug them ^^

Russia has been preparing for some time to be able to disconnect from outside Russia and continue to have internet working within Russia, only with Russian sites.

They've run simulations themselves in that regard.

Ah well, I guess we know very well the consequences for them and the rest of the world. Thanks!

It might be that they are already doing it.
