Technically git is distributed version control and should be workable even if GitHub is down. You could fetch from your coworkers directly even for instance. We’ve really fallen a long way if GitHub is a single point of failure.
They sell CI/CD pipeline service, which one can build their infra around. This is supposed to work "in the cloud" with availability/reliability of the cloud... and this is one of their selling points.
