I looked for "Hive" on Google.

- https://hive.com/ project management app

- https://hive.app/ E-commerce management app

- https://hive.io/ Some kind of crypto

- https://hiveon.com/ Crypto mining software

- https://www.withhive.com/ Gaming platform

- https://hive.apache.org/ Data warehouse software

Guess I didn't find the one this article is about.

First thing I thought of was:

https://www.hivehome.com/ Smart home thermostat (which is the top Google result for 'hive' here in the UK)

Don’t worry, the actual site [0] is horrible enough that you still won’t know what they are about besides p2p cloud something.

Hm... I'm working on something called https://hivekit.io/ - but I'm starting to regret the name :-D

Thoughts on how this is unique in anyway to IPFS, Filecoin ... ?

At first I thought "bleh, typical negative HN comment", but then I read the article and am left with the exact same question. Isn't this just IPFS with heavy backing?

I guess that is the difference though; the backing.

Isn't IPFS free? This looks like a system that takes money from those who pay for storage/computing and pays those willing to allow their idle machines for use.

If you want to be sure that your data will remain available on IPFS it's not free either.

Why does it need to be unique? Few large companies today were unique in their offereing when they launched.

It's probably closer to Internet Computer than IPFS, Arweave, FileCoin, etc.

It's even more similar to https://www.storj.io/

Wuala called, they want their IP back.

I'm getting a strong sense of Deja Vue with this one, is that what they mean by 'visionary'?

How will they deal with misuse. E.g. one time accounts using vast network to create DDoS against target site.
