Facebook is changing its algorithm to take on TikTok, leaked memo reveals

I see this as a negative, considering that TikTok's algorithm is nothing short of digital crack.

No prizes for guessing how The Verge obtained the memo.

Quite an interesting article.

Shows the problem of taking what seems like a good, maybe naive idea from a top down perspective: "TikTok is gaining popularity. Let's be more like TikTok."

And then pushing it down into actual implementation where it is obvious that fast-moving, pseudonymous, share-everything TikTok is quite a different beast than Facebook.

There is a couple of accounts that use the same attractive face in totally unrelated videos, like 1 second of it, in all their videos just to bait the algorithm and it works.
