Ask HN: Tools to block web and phone work disruptions?

I put it in a bank safety deposit box and hand over the key to my mom who heads out of town every week for work. When she gets back on the weekends I get it out and check messages. Quite a few iterations happened to get to this point. Initially I used to just give it to her, but she would read all my notifications. Couldn't help it I guess. Next we used to leave it in her cupboard but that just made me learn how to break locks. So here we are.

I feel you here.

For my phone, all I have to do is put it face down, Android do not disturb mode.

The real answer to your problem is awareness and discipline. Sounds like your at least halfway there!

Did not know about face-down for DND -- thank you for that.

However I activated DND on my Android several months ago and I am never going back.

just found dnd on iPhone too. Feeling so much better.

phone: leave your device in another room

web: not opening non-work related sites

The solutions to these self inflicted problems do not require more "tech". Quite the opposite, really

Web: hosts file

Phone: Faraday pouch

(Personally I don't work this way anymore but that's where I'd start if focused on those aspects)
