Joe Bernard successfully land solid fuel model rocket after 7 years (video)

I'm so glad to see his tenacity paying off, it's been great to watch his progress. To be honest I never thought this would be possible because there's just so much variance with these small solid fuel motors. Impressive.

Even if the landing was a little bouncy, it's a landmark achievement for model rocketry. Tickled to see the top Youtube comment is from Scott Manley.

The mechanism to throttle the solid rocket motor is simple and ingenious - ceramic "jaws" underneath constrict to block a portion of the exhaust plume (an idea borrowed from Josh at Simple Robotics). Lol..what is crazy is that this guy graduated from the Berklee college of music and used to work as a wedding videographer.
