You know, the compiler that kept free software running between 1990 and 2015?

The sheer erasure of his contributions would be comical if it wasn't done so maliciously.

I'm clearly not talking about his contributions as a software developer, but as a public intellectual.

Well now it is. I'm not really sure how you would think that gcc or any other GNU software solved a problem which nobody noticed until twenty years later-- the context for my comment-- but sure.
