White House report proposes possible restrictions on proof-of-work crypto mining

Future regulations like this are one of the many reasons I’ve been bearish on bitcoin and other proof of work coins for years now.

I still have a passing interest in other cryptocurrencies that aren’t proof of work with the exception of monero which is interesting for its privacy goals. But things like Ripple/Stellar and Etherium’s new proof of stake and all the coins that will effectively move over with it are far more interesting.

How would it affect states like texas with large crypto mining industries powered by wind farms.

Punitive carbon tax on crypto mining seems like a fair compromise.

I have a big power bill and lots of computers working 24/7. But how to detect a mining activity? Maybe I use that computers for something else like self-hosting a website?
