Ask HN: Are Embedded Engineers Slaves?
(If we remove the salary from the equation)
If we remove the salary from the equation for any job or for any type of worker, does that make them a slave or a volunteer? I'd say the latter, if only because unlike slaves volunteers can get up and leave whenever they want.
To be honest, though, I find the slavery comparison to be more than a bit offensive.
By slave, I mean ‘Slavonic (*captive*)’, there shouldn't be a taboo necessary with that word.
> Saqaliba refers to the Slavic mercenaries and slaves in the medieval Arab world in North Africa, Sicily and Al-Andalus.
Edit: therefore I mean, are embedded engineers captive [0] of progress? (It's not an interesting question, sorry)
