When Will the Pandemic Truly Be ‘Over’?

Not sure what the rest of the world is like but I think majority in my country consider it over.
I see a lot of the same things, but at the same time, everyone I know who has gone on vacation anywhere has come home with COVID. My mom has COVID right now and she doesn't even do anything.
There is the argument that it's just a like a cold/flu now, but I know more people getting COVID than any other illness. There are also still a pretty significant number of deaths, which will likely have it it the top 5 causes of death for 2022.
It's not as bad as it was at it's peak, but it doesn't feel over. We've thought it was over several times so far, and each time people started to relax, a new variant came out and cases spiked. In theory, future variants should be less life threatening than the early ones, but only time will tell.
People get flu shots each year. They might get covid shots each year. And some will check out from either.
