This is from May, there have been, at least, 2 forks to make it run on modern Windows

Hey, an open source graphics engine that can compete with Meta!

Honestly looks more impressive

Horizon Worlds has antialiasing, but 3D Movie Maker has legs.

Who knew the metaverse would come with this many choices?

Microsoft Comic Chat next, please

I didn't get this reference, thought it'd be something about comic sans, haha.

In case others are unfamiliar, too:

> Microsoft Comic Chat is a graphic IRC client created by Microsoft, first released with Internet Explorer 3.0 in 1996. Comic Chat was developed by Microsoft Researcher David Kurlander, with Microsoft Research's Virtual Worlds Group and later a group he managed in Microsoft's Internet Division.

But it is about Comic Sans! As mentioned in the article, Comic Sans was shipped with Comic Chat to render the text. It just managed to outlive the associated software.

Comic Sans was used in Comic Chat, however the first (documented and published) user of Comic Sans was ... 3D Video. Thus the circle to this discussion closes.

Old software from yester-decade should always be open-sourced. And the fact that it isn't is a darn shame.

Scott strikes again! His colleagues from legal must be starting to avoid him by now

Now I want to see Windows Movie Maker open-sourced [1]. It was simple and intuitive. Alternatives are okay, but have a habit of crashing.

I just want the regular Windows Movie Maker to come back. It’s crazy how good that thing was for making basic movies. Simple non-linear editing that just worked.

Then they got rid of it and replaced it with… nothing?

I think Clipchamp, which they bought recently, is intended to be the new default video editing experience for Windows.

thank you foone

For a second I hoped it is Microsoft Movie Maker.

Rat Movie 3 when?

Oh no! A rat!

We are the rats

We stalk at night

we prey at night,

were da ratz

How can we ask to open source Visual Basic 6?

I suspect VB6 code is still too heavily deployed in production and insecure as heck for Microsoft to be comfortable releasing it as open source, but I can hope. (The VB6 runtime is still included and supported as a component of Windows 11.)

Back when Microsoft was great, good old times

Great software

MSFT is still pretty impressive imho

Do you say "MSFT" because it is in your portfolio?

Or do you say this because they managed to make notepad worse in windows 11?

No. Because they have developed one of the most important languages of the last ten years, typescript; have exceptional developer tools; and employ some of our era’s most meaningful theorists in computer science and economics.

Quick Basic next, pretty please!
