There's a regular NANOG talk called "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about optical" available on Youtube (multiple versions/years) if anyone wants to get into the weeds.

The Fiber Optic Association has some books that are quite approachable too. I read a few of them about 6 years ago to prepare for doing some fiber work--designing and installing a fiber plant for a large campground.

Just visited the birthplace in southbridge, Ma. What an awesome place (now southbridge convention and hotel). The buildings are there, all the info, loved it
