This is a good read for showing a common trap that naive benchmarks can set. The author makes sure to set the reader's expectations (I'm not a compiler expert) but perfectly demonstrates how he went about peeling back the top layer of Julia's compilation and show what's both a very cool optimization while also satisfying his curiosity/skepticism that became the post's title.
