Yes, people are using ipv6 for real deployments. See any large scale mobile network deployment. Funny thing is most people never realize because it all just works…

What are you going to use instead? IPv4 is already bursting at the seams and starting over from scratch at this point means at least a decade before a new solution could even be considered.

You'd be surprised. A former employer is still writing new Python 2 code.
